Bull Island
Bull Island, more properly known as North Bull Island, is a unique natural treasure located in Dublin Bay, Ireland. This 5 km long and 800 m wide island is a relatively recent result of human intervention in the bay and is home to a sandy beach known as Dollymount Strand that runs its entire length. The island is accessed by way of a causeway bridge from Raheny and a wooden bridge from Clontarf.
Bull Island holds the most designations of any site in the country, including a National Bird Sanctuary, a biosphere reserve, a National Nature Reserve, a Special Protection Area under the EU Birds Directive, and a Special Area of Conservation under the EU Habitats Directive. It is a car-free zone and is home to a wide variety of plant and bird species, and a limited range of mammals.
The island is also a popular spot for leisure activities. Dollymount Strand, the 5 km beach on the island, is a popular walking and recreational area. The island is also popular with kite-surfers, and it houses two golf courses. North Bull Island is a hidden gem on Dublin’s doorstep that I stumbled upon during a last-minute decision to hop on my bike and go for a cycle. As soon as I reached the island, it was evident why so many people rave about this place. The beautiful sunset over the deserted beach took my breath away, providing an unforgettable experience that allowed me to momentarily forget about the world’s worries.
I have been coming to Dollymount Beach since childhood, and North Bull Island never disappoints with its famous steps leading down into Dublin Bay. Located here are several ships that come and go from Dublin Port, which you can watch from afar while sitting along the beach.
Although quite windy at times when storms appear and cool even when summer shines bright, North Bull Island remains a unique attraction worth visiting in any season. A popular spot for charity fun runs in previous years with attractions such as Gulliver’s Travels statue featuring in its past events with stunning views of Sandymount old ESB chimneys located further westward make it one of my favourite beaches now more than ever before!
Overall if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy nature without distractions from your daily routine or just dragging off monotony – then please do yourself favour get out here ASAP! You will not be disappointed by what awaits you here on North Bull Island – a natural escape within reach of city life.

Whether it’s early morning or late evening, you can enjoy uninterrupted moments of peace with your coffee and appreciate nature at its finest.
The best part about this hidden gem is how safe and comfortable it feels. The regular swimmers who frequent Balscadden Bay Beach are friendly and welcoming- they make sure everyone can enjoy their swim without any hassles. However, I must warn potential visitors that these steps are very steep- so please exercise caution while heading down to the sand.
If like me – You love adventure then Balscadden Bay Beach is worth taking off some time for exploration during your next visit in Dublin! Though access might not render itself passable by wheelchair or buggy’s but trust me every step towards here has been rewarding..I mean what else would one want when looking for great walks paths aside drifting into deep thoughts whilst there…So if you’re a fan of calm & tranquil confluence against waters that branch out only after travelling far fetching stories of driftwood alike..then head on over to Balscadden Bay -Thank Me Later 😉

The water may be on the cold side, but it doesn’t take away from its natural beauty. What’s more, there are clean toilets near the car park which makes settling in all more easy!
If you’re planning on visiting Portmarnock Beach then make sure you schedule your visit for early morning. This is when crowds are much less and parking spots are plenty – giving visitors a chance to enjoy their surroundings without feeling swarmed by people.
The cleanliness of this beach is impressive – and what’s even better? There aren’t too many restaurants around which means you really do get that “getaway” feel while being only minutes from Dublin city centre. If you needed any further convincing about why Portmarnock Beach deserves a spot on your must-visit list then let me add: there’s also changing shelters AND public toilets! All contributing factors to make this place simply irresistible!
Overall, if you want a day filled with scenic views amidst pristine conditions then hurry down to Portmarnock Beach before everyone else catches up! Whether solo or with friends/family – this destination caters to everybody looking for some fun-in-the-sun!

Sandycove is also famous for its association with the renowned writer James Joyce, who lived for a week in the Martello Tower situated beside the Forty Foot. The opening scene of Joyce’s masterpiece, Ulysses, is set in this tower, which now hosts a small Joycean museum. Every year, Bloomsday is celebrated in Sandycove in Joyce’s honour on the 16th of June. Whether you’re a literary enthusiast, a sea swimmer, or a history buff, Sandycove offers a rich cultural experience along with its beautiful seaside views.

Sandycove Beach, what a hidden gem! As you park your car and step out onto the golden sand, you can’t help but smile at how picturesque it is. It’s hard to believe that such an idyllic spot is just a short distance from Dublin city centre. The water looks crystal clear and inviting, perfect for a swim when the tide is in halfway or higher. But even if you’re not keen on taking a dip, the beach makes for an incredibly relaxing weekend walk.
One of my favorite aspects of Sandycove Beach was that there were plenty of lifeguards stationed around to keep everyone safe as they enjoyed the water. I also loved how there are some great spots where kids could jump off into deeper waters from the walls- definitely worth venturing out on warm summer afternoons! When hunger strikes or children demand snacks (as they invariably do!), no need to worry as there’s often vendor stalls selling drinks and snacks which make things convenient.
If you love literary history then don’t miss James Joyce Martello tower located hereabouts with its museum – very interesting indeed! Although one downside was inevitably parking; being such a popular spot during good weather season made securing space somewhat tricky.Getting up early may be necessary if planning to come over weekends.Expect crowds so have patience – this place gets busy really fast when weather permits!
If anyone asks me for swimming advice this summer –I’ll undoubtedly recommend Sandycove Beach without hesitation! Exceptionally beautiful location with so much charm and convenience packed in for visitors looking to get away from downtown hustle & bustle.Yes,it might take some patience on certain days regarding parking situation.However,this place is not only kid-friendly but provides an array of activities e.g winkel picking,caves exploring etc.One more beauty factor? Seals sunbathing on nearby rocks complete your visit.Enjoyable always!

The narrow path leading to the bathing place, bordered by lush greenery on either side, gave me a feeling of serenity. When I finally reached my destination and took a quick look around, it did not disappoint.
The natural rock pool was not too big but perfect for people looking to relax and unwind. There were several paths leading up from here which were great for hiking too – something that many seem to miss when they visit this spot! It was a bit busy with other visitors enjoying their swim during peak hours, but early mornings were just so peaceful- an ideal time definitely worth paying heed.
The parking spots nearby can be quite limited and finding some peace seated may require you going back up and sitting on grass instead; however, these inconveniences are outweighed by what awaits at Hawk Cliff – a breathtaking view combined with invigorating sea swims that make it all worthwhile!

The smooth round stones mixed with course sand gives it an interesting texture. It’s massive enough to fit a lot of people but even on busy days there’s still enough space for everyone.
The view from Killiney Strand is breathtaking and refreshing. You’ll never get tired of looking out into the water and feeling your soul refreshed. There are plenty of places nearby to grab some food or drinks as well as Sunday farmers market if you’re in the area over the weekend.
There’s nothing like taking a dip in the clear waters at one end of this rocky-sandy beach and then walking towards White Rock during low tide with Bray Hill overviewing everything around you. The car park nearby allows easy access while also offering bike racks for all cycling enthusiasts out there! Overall, Killiney Strand is perfect whether it’s just strolling around or getting involved in water sports activities- either way, it’s worth checking out!

The sandy beach on a bay-like location with crystal clear water is honestly pure magic! The breathtaking scenery during sunsets around Biscayne area is something that sticks with you long after leaving. Just be mindful of some irresponsible dog owners who let their pups off-leash which causes distress for other dog-lovers sometimes. Luckily there are life-guards monitoring all activities thus assuring everyone gets to enjoy what they came for.
While exploring Malahide Beach, it’s hard not to appreciate how peaceful and calm everything seems. Whether enjoying observing marine-life underwater or picking street parking spot near cafe in 10 minute distance from waters (a lifesaver!), there really isn’t much more one could ask for from such a lovely serene environment — perfect escape from hectic city life indeed! Lastly make sure you check out interesting number plates we found randomly whilst parked up.. wouldn’t have thought photography could turn into magical police intervention story against Fishy Mrs McGee until then ;).
