I remember my first camping trip in Ireland like it was yesterday. I had packed everything but the kitchen sink (classic rookie mistake) and set off with my friends towards our destination – one of Ireland's hidden gems. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us around the site before helping us pitch our tent. The atmosphere was electric; everyone was excited about what lay ahead.
And boy oh boy did it not disappoint! We spent our days hiking through stunning landscapes dotted with ancient ruins and historic landmarks before returning to base for a well-earned BBQ dinner under starry skies. It was then that I realized how much beauty this small island nation held within its borders -all waiting for me to explore!
In this article, I'll take you on a journey through some of Ireland's best campsites where you can create memories just like mine or even better ones if possible! So grab your backpacks & sleeping bags- let's get started!
Key Takeaways:
Here's what you'll learn from reading this article
- Ireland is a paradise for camping enthusiasts, with its stunning landscapes and rugged terrain offering an array of options for outdoor adventurers.
- From coastal cliffs to rolling hills, there are plenty of campsites to choose from across the country, each with its unique charm and facilities.
- Whether you prefer wild camping or glamping, there's something for everyone in Ireland's great outdoors.
☝️ How we rated the services below:
As a team of experienced campers, we have scoured the Irish countryside to uncover the best camping sites in Ireland. To ensure that our review process was thorough and comprehensive, we developed a set of criteria that each site had to meet before being deemed worthy of inclusion on our list.
- Location: We carefully evaluated each camping site based on its location. The ideal site should be situated in an area with stunning natural beauty and provide easy access to nearby attractions such as hiking trails, beaches or historic landmarks.
- Facilities: After evaluating the location, we examined the facilities provided by each campground. Our team assessed each site's amenities such as showers, toilets, cooking areas and electricity supply to determine if they were up to standard.
- Cleanliness: A clean and well-maintained environment is essential for any camper's comfort. Therefore, we paid close attention to how clean the camping grounds were kept during our visits. We looked out for things like littering or overflowing trash cans which would not be acceptable by our discerning standards.
- Safety: Safety is paramount when it comes to choosing a campsite in Ireland; therefore, we scrutinized every aspect from fire safety regulations enforced by local authorities down-to-site-specific health hazards (e.g., overhanging trees). Any issues found could result in immediate disqualification from consideration.
- Privacy & Noise Levels: As avid campers ourselves who cherish our space while enjoying nature’s quietness at nightfall; privacy was also something that weighed heavily into our considerations throughout this selection process! Thus ensuring there are adequate distances between campsites so your neighbours won’t disturb you late at night!

Camac Valley Tourist Caravan and Camping Park
Camac Valley Tourist Caravan and Camping Park is a great spot to stay in Clondalkin, Co. Dublin! Located just on the outskirts of Dublin City, the park offers a great variety of different types of pitches with reasonable pricing. We were especially pleased by how clean everything was kept—from the full service facilities to each individual campsite. And when we arrived for check-in, we even got an information sheet filled with details about the site itself as well as the best ways to get into town.
The staff at Camac Valley was also incredibly accommodating and hospitable – they always ensured that our needs were met and gave advice whenever we asked for it! What Are The Pros And Cons of Camping in Ireland
Camping is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Ireland, and it's easy to see why. With its stunning natural landscapes and rugged coastline, there are plenty of great camping sites to choose from all over the country. However, while this topic offers a lot of potential for a fun article, some drawbacks need to be considered.
Firstly, let's start with the advantages. Camping allows you to get up close and personal with nature, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the peace away from the hustle and bustle of city life. You can wake up every morning surrounded by beautiful scenery or fall asleep under a starry sky after a long day exploring your surroundings.
However, some downsides to camping shouldn't be ignored. For one thing, weather conditions can be unpredictable in Ireland – even during the summer months – so packing appropriate gear is essential if you want to stay dry and comfortable.
Another potential drawback is that many campsites can get crowded during peak season (especially those located near popular tourist attractions), which could take away from your overall experience if you're looking for solitude.
Despite these challenges though, camping remains an excellent way to explore Ireland's beautiful countryside at your own pace. So whether you're planning on pitching your tent along the coast or deep in the heart of rural Ireland – just make sure you have everything you need before setting off!
