Best Camping Sites in Ireland

I’ll never forget my first camping trip in Ireland, waking up to a dewy morning with the sound of a distant sheep and the fresh, earthy smell of the countryside. It was like stepping into a whole other world, one where the hustle of city life seemed a million miles away. Finding the best camping sites in Ireland turned into a bit of an adventure in itself, each with its unique charm and breathtaking views.

There’s something truly magical about pitching a tent in the heart of Ireland’s lush landscapes. I’ve gathered around campfires under starlit skies, shared stories with fellow campers, and fallen asleep to the sound of nature’s lullaby. It’s these simple pleasures that make camping here an unforgettable experience.

What’s your idea of the perfect camping spot? Is it nestled beside a sparkling lake, hidden away in a forest, or perched on a cliff overlooking the sea? Ireland has them all, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience a few. Let me take you through some of the best spots where nature hugs you back, and every morning greets you with a masterpiece.

☝️ How we rated the services below:

Selecting the best camping sites in Ireland is a task we approach with great care and attention to detail. Here are the most crucial criteria we consider in our review:

  • Location and Scenery: We prioritize camping sites that offer breathtaking views and are ideally located to explore Ireland’s natural beauty. Whether nestled beside a lake, tucked away in a forest, or perched on a cliff, the setting plays a significant role in our selection.
  • Facilities and Amenities: The quality and variety of facilities available at the campsite are key factors. We look for clean, well-maintained toilets, showers, and cooking areas. Additional amenities like electricity hookups and WiFi add value to the camping experience.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: We ensure the campsites adhere to high safety standards, including fire regulations and secure camping grounds. Cleanliness throughout the site, especially in communal areas, is non-negotiable for a pleasant stay.
  • Eco-Friendliness: In today’s world, respecting the environment is paramount. We favour campsites that practice sustainability, such as waste recycling and energy conservation, to ensure minimal impact on the surrounding nature.
  • Customer Experience: Feedback from previous campers about their experiences is invaluable. We consider the level of customer service, the ease of booking, and the overall satisfaction of visitors in our assessment. A friendly atmosphere and a welcoming staff significantly enhance the camping experience.

Hidden Valley Holiday Park

Hidden Valley Holiday Park is an entirely magical place where all of your holiday wishes come true. Not only does it offer a wide variety of activities ranging from train rides and fairy forests to arts & crafts with Mrs Claus, but the accommodation is clean, spacious and reasonable for the price. Additionally, each staff member makes it their goal to ensure you have one-of-a-kind experiences that you’ll remember for a lifetime!

One particular experience that stood out was visiting Santa’s cottage on our last day there. We were blessed to meet the kinder Anna in the lake house who offered us dinner despite her kitchen being closed, just because she wanted my daughter to have a wonderful time. The entire atmosphere was filled with Christmas spirit as Mrs Claus offered arts and crafts while mad elves entertained children singing naughty songs around them whilst they waited excitedly for Santa Klaus himself!

The great thing about Hidden Valley Holiday Park is that it has something every traveler can enjoy – no matter what age or stage in life you might be in – even if misery doesn’t plan your vacation plans (ehem!), there are indoor activities such as movies nights, cooking classes and leisure center which includes bowling alley & arcade machines so you won’t get wet during miserable days. With amazing customer service , friendly staff ,great prices & diverse range of options available I certainly recommend visitors check this magnificent resort out when next booking their holidays !

Camac Valley Tourist Caravan and Camping Park

Camac Valley Tourist Caravan and Camping Park is a great spot to stay in Clondalkin, Co. Dublin! Located just on the outskirts of Dublin City, the park offers a great variety of different types of pitches with reasonable pricing. We were especially pleased by how clean everything was kept—from the full service facilities to each individual campsite. And when we arrived for check-in, we even got an information sheet filled with details about the site itself as well as the best ways to get into town.

The staff at Camac Valley was also incredibly accommodating and hospitable – they always ensured that our needs were met and gave advice whenever we asked for it! Beyond their friendly services, there’s plenty more worth mentioning; like excellent bus connections into town right outside (just perfect if you’re going to a concert),a Tesco superstore only five minutes away by car, and extra amenities like affordable washing machines/dryers or playgrounds nearby so kids won’t be bored inside during rainier days. Our favorite part during our six-day stint here however must have been the Hallowe’en party – where all children trick or treated together followed up with free treats from staff and a mini disco & movie night – everyone present had a blast!

They’re nestled in locations that provide breathtaking views, whether that’s of rolling hills, crystal-clear lakes, or rugged coastlines. Accessibility to nearby attractions like hiking trails and historic landmarks also plays a significant role. For me, it’s these elements combined with clean, well-maintained amenities and a sense of safety and privacy that truly make a camping site stand out.

How do I choose the right camping site for my needs in Ireland?

When I’m picking a camping site in Ireland, I consider several factors to ensure it matches my needs. Firstly, location is key; I look for sites that are close to nature and offer the kind of outdoor activities I enjoy, like hiking or swimming. I also check the facilities available, such as showers, cooking areas, and electricity hookups. Another important aspect is the type of camping experience I’m after, be it a secluded spot for wild camping or a family-friendly site with plenty of amenities. Reading reviews and recommendations from other campers can be incredibly helpful too.

Can I find camping sites in Ireland that are suitable for families?

Absolutely! Many camping sites in Ireland cater specifically to families, providing a safe and engaging environment for both adults and children. These sites often feature playgrounds, family-oriented activities, and facilities that make camping with kids a breeze, such as clean toilets, showers, and even on-site convenience stores. From my adventures, picking a family-friendly site often means creating lasting memories amidst Ireland’s stunning landscapes.

What should I pack for a camping trip to Ireland?

When packing for a camping trip in Ireland, I always prepare for unpredictable weather. This means bringing waterproof gear, warm clothing, and sturdy footwear. Essentials also include a high-quality tent, a comfortable sleeping bag, cooking equipment if I plan to prepare meals, insect repellent, and sunscreen. It’s also wise to pack a first-aid kit, a flashlight or headlamp, and some form of navigation aid, like a map or GPS device.

Are there any free camping options available in Ireland?

While free camping spots in Ireland are rare, it’s possible to find wild camping areas with permission or low-cost options such as staying on farmlands that offer basic facilities for a nominal fee. Always remember, though, that wild camping requires adherence to the Leave No Trace principles and may need prior approval from landowners. It’s a unique experience that brings you closer to nature, but it also comes with the responsibility to preserve the environment.

How do I ensure my camping trip in Ireland is safe?

Ensuring safety during a camping trip in Ireland involves several key steps. Firstly, I always inform someone of my travel plans and expected return. I choose well-regarded campsites with good safety records and familiarize myself with the local emergency services and procedures. Being prepared with the right gear, such as weather-appropriate clothing and a first-aid kit, is crucial. Lastly, camping in groups or at sites with staff on hand can add an extra layer of security.

Can I bring my dog with me to camping sites in Ireland?

Yes, many camping sites in Ireland welcome pets, but it’s important to check the site’s pet policy before you book. I always make sure my dog is well-behaved and on a leash when required, and I bring all necessary supplies, including food, water, and waste bags. Remember, being considerate of other campers and the wildlife ensures a pleasant experience for everyone involved.
