Good morning, my fellow brunch enthusiasts! Are you ready to get your taste buds dancing and your stomachs satisfied? Because today's topic is sure to make all the foodies out there salivate with delight. We're talking about the best brunch spots in Dublin—with a twist.
Now, I know what you're thinking: “Oh great, another boring listicle of all the same trendy restaurants everyone else is raving about.” But fear not, dear reader. Today we are going off-road, seeking out those hidden gems that only the locals know about. The kind of places where you'll feel like a VIP just for knowing they exist.
I discovered one such spot purely by accident when wandering around town one Sunday morning nursing a hangover from hell. As fate would have it, I stumbled upon this cosy little cafe tucked away down a side alleyway—empty except for two old timers at one end of the bar sipping on Bloody Marys as if their lives depended on it. Intrigued by their dedication to hair-of-the-dog therapy—for science purposes—I decided to sidle up next to them and order myself an Irish coffee before perusing the menu… And that was how I found what may very well be my new favourite Brunch spot in Dublin!
Key Takeaways:
Here's what you'll learn from reading this article
- Brunch is a popular meal for Dubliners and tourists alike, with many options in the city.
- The best brunch spots typically have long wait times on weekends, so reservations are recommended.
- Prices range greatly depending on location and offerings – some places are budget-friendly while others cater to a more upscale crowd.
- A good brunch spot should offer vegetarian and/or gluten-free options as well as classic favourites like eggs benedict or pancakes.
☝️ How we rated the services below:
When it comes to finding the best brunch spots in Dublin, we took a discerning and selective approach to ensure that we only recommend top-notch establishments. Here are some of the criteria that guided our review process:
- Ambience: We evaluated each spot's overall atmosphere to determine if it provided an inviting ambience for diners with a relaxing vibe.
- Menu Variety: Our team evaluated their menu variety, looking out for restaurants, cafes and bistros which offer a wide range of options including vegetarian as well as gluten-free items.
- Quality of Ingredients: The quality of ingredients used at these brunch spots was carefully assessed by our team – from farm-fresh eggs to locally sourced produce; everything was thoroughly examined.
- Creativity: With so many great picks in Dublin, creativity played an important role in whether we will recommend it or not — distinctive menu offerings were given preference over cookie-cutter dishes you can find anywhere else.
- Service: Friendly staff members who attend quickly but also give guests plenty of space when they need it was preferred.
- Cleanliness & Hygiene Standards: We paid close attention to cleanliness standards while dining out and ranked each establishment accordingly based on overall hygiene levels such as wiping surfaces down after use etc.

⭐ A Personal Take on Thundercut Alley:
Thundercut Alley, oh my goodness where do I even begin? This place has got to be one of the coolest spots in Dublin. The moment you walk through that door, you're transported to a funky, vibrant atmosphere and your senses start tingling with anticipation for what's about to come. And boy does it deliver! So much food we were almost rolling out the door after haha. And did I mention they also have great vegetarian options? It really caters for everyone.
But the real mvp of Thundercut Alley is definitely its Margaritas – deliciously mixed with just the right amount of kick! One sip and I felt like I was lounging in a beach-side bar in Mexico… Pure bliss!

Platform 61 is a hidden gem located in the heart of Dublin. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that made us feel at home instantly. The restaurant has a cozy basement vibe which added to its overall charm. The exceptional service provided by Nick and Kiko elevated our dining experience to another level.
I had heard great things about their garlic bread and it did not disappoint! The sourdough was an unexpected twist that made the dish unique and memorable. Our mains, the Hake and Ribeye, were delectable despite initially waiting for 45 minutes due to a kitchen mishap. However, what stood out was how well they handled the situation- drinks on the house, steak remade quickly with compensation- making sure their customers are happy!
The highlight of our night had to be dessert; brownie with ice cream free of charge! Platform 61 truly cares about customer satisfaction without compromising quality food or service. ⭐ Our Unvarnished Impressions of Lovinspoon:
Lovinspoon is a hidden gem to kickstart your day with amazing food and great service. My friend and I stumbled upon this cozy cafe while looking for breakfast spots, and we were not disappointed at all! The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and despite its size – it's surprisingly comfortable. You might have to wait for a table due to the high demand once you get inside, but that adds up even more excitement.
I had an Irish big breakfast while my friend indulged in some blueberry pancakes; both dishes made our taste buds go wild! We also savored the handmade sausages which tasted nothing like supermarket ones; they're something else entirely! By adding extra eggs instead of beans as per my request was above what most restaurants do these days. Our meal sizes were enormous yet reasonably priced compared to other places too!
The owners and chefs here are extremely welcoming – making us feel right at home during our visit. Their service was fantastic, never leaving us waiting for anything. SLICE, oh how you have satisfied my taste buds! This little gem nestled in Stoneybatter is where you need to go for a banging brunch. From the moment I walked through the door, I knew this spot was special. The vibe was relaxed yet buzzing with energy, and it didn't take me long to realise why. Their food and coffee offerings are truly top-notch.
I ordered their eggs and green dish, which had an explosion of flavours that were so well balanced I could hardly believe it. It's no wonder there's always a queue outside! Luckily for me and my group of friends, we managed to snag one of their outdoor tables on a glorious sunny day in Dublin. The waiter who looked after us (shoutout to the guy with black curly hair!) made our experience even better by providing fantastic service.
Honestly speaking, SLICE is worth every penny spent – not only because they offer high quality food and excellent coffee; but also because they give off such good vibes that leave you feeling warm inside even after leaving the place. One thing though: if sausages aren’t your cup of tea like mine then I’d recommend asking them about their other options as those fell apart like mashed potato on my fork🤢🍽️ That being said, everything else we tried was mind-blowing: from pancakes served perfect crispy on the outside but oh-so-fluffy on the inside all topped off with some fruit compote 👀 So do yourself a favour next time you're visiting Dublin – pay SLICE a visit –You won't regret it!

Balfes
⭐ Our Honest Opinion of Balfes:
Balfes – where do I begin? From the moment I walked through their doors, I was struck by the lively and classy atmosphere. It's a perfect spot for cocktails with friends, and trust me, their non-alcoholic cocktails are divine! Sebastian made us two of them, with every sip being pure bliss. He checked on us multiple times to make sure everything was to our liking. Talk about top-notch service!
But it wasn't just the drinks that made my experience exceptional – it was also our wonderful waitress Julie C! She had such a positive attitude and gave us fantastic recommendations for dessert.
